BTS: Nymphaea Recording Session 1

Nymphaea, my second body of work is well under way! In this clip, I’m working on a track called “Sprung”, produced by HOLYxKEYEL. I’ve been recording with Colorado Sound Studios with one of the dopest engineers, Big Rob and there’s nothing better than having an engineer understand your artistic direction and make your recording experience smooth and steady. I plan to drop a single and a couple freestyles in the meantime.

Stay tuned 🙂 XOXO

FLASHBACK: For Kicks…

grogg

Currently working on my next project Nymphaea and wanted to get out some old gems that I recorded years ago during high school and Freshman year in college. It’s so hilarious how I’ve grown out of some of lyrics and how my writing style has evolved yet still uniquely mine.

Stay tuned 🙂

Mai Moxi Live @ The Other Side in Denver, CO

JulyFlyer

Another one. July 10th, 2016 Denver, CO I’m pumped to deliver another performance in the Mile High. Pretty excited for the most part because being on stage at the Roxy Theatre was a refresher; it felt good to finally deliver my ideas that were all in my head and to give people a taste of my full body of work “Memoirs of Mai Moxi”. “Thoughts in tangible form” is the motto…I feel it’s so important to trust in our ideas and never for a second belittle them before they have a chance to take root.

Still seeking a sick live band to team up with and perform live with so, feel free to plug any names to me in the comments or dms.

See you in July!

Mai Moxi Live: Roxy Theatre Denver, CO

Moxi2Moxi1Moxi4Moxi5Moxi6Performing at the Roxy Theatre was a blast! So many people came out to support me and some other dope local acts. It felt good to finally get my songs out there and hear them live. Craziest thing about that night? I didn’t even have a chance to PRACTICE on the stage etc. There was miscommunication about the set-up time etc but overall it was smooth! The crowd positively received my set and got plenty of “daps and pounds”. This was my first live performance and for it to be in a major city like Denver was electrifying! The base was knocking, there was a fan blowing my soul all around that stage (literally…there was a fan on stage that kept blowing and at some parts I felt like I couldn’t breath lmao). Other than that, the crowd was responsive to jokes and to direction. I had a blast and want to do it all over again!

Memoirs of Mai Moxi coming this week 🙂

Memoirs of Mai Moxi: “Chainsmoke” prod. by HOLYxKEYEL

Just released another gem off of my forthcoming project Memoirs of Mai Moxi. “Chainsmoke” was produced by HOLYxKeyel. I remember back in high school when I was introduced to Keyel, the collective comprised of the talented artists, engineers and producers in Three Seas. Their sound was soothing, delicate yet raw and oh so Cleveland. To be able to work with and get on a beat handcrafted from such an eclectic producer/ artist as HOLYxKEYEL was an honestly a blessing and experience. I had written lyrics but couldn’t find the right frequency to match it. One day checking out HOLYxKEYEL’s Soundcloud, I stumbled across this beat and my lyrics rode it perfectly.

This song is basically about a f**k n***a. Basically. And everyone has dealt with one or at least has been one (sadly). Sometimes, you know something is bad for you, but you keep coming back. Humans can be addictive. The way you crave someones touch or presence is the same feeling I feel people who “Chainsmoke” cigarettes feel about smoking. In essence, it’s “self-inflicted pain with no type of gain” but sometimes your pride and your attraction enables you to not let go. I know the feeling and it’s hard to break away from something that isn’t benefiting you. In 2016, I’m letting go of my “Chainsmokes” and cutting ties of all things not prosperous. F**k N****s, habits and everything in between. Stay tuned for the full body of work.

Enjoy.

Behind the Scenes: Memoirs of Mai Moxi Cover Art Photo Shoot

DSC06057

Here’s some behind the scenes footage from the cover art shoot for my upcoming project Memoirs of Mai Moxi . Putting some necessary seasoning and spice and everything nice to deliver my thoughts and experiences in a tasteful way. This look was pulled off by the most minimal details and simplistic designs by the amazingly talented designer of Aunt Funky’s Closet and strings pulled from various inspirational channels.

From passive to aggressive, Memoirs of Mai Moxi showcases some of my layers as a human and most importantly as a woman. The idea behind this look was an revolutionized Princess Izzi from Coming to America. Her character really is a polar opposite of who I am at times and I wanted to highlight that but with a little more seasoning and slight futuristic approach. This was filmed by NowaiCode and the actual cover art was shot and designed by Denver talent none other than Brandon Dougherty .

Enjoy.

Memoirs of Mai Moxi: “I’d Rather Be Your Lady”

Garmai9

Wow. It’s been a long and fun process recording Memoirs of Mai Moxi! Just to give you a taste as to what I am working on, here’s a track called “I’d Rather Be Your Lady” off the project Memoirs of Mai Moxi that will be dropping during the holidays.

This track was heavily inspired by the late great Tupac Shakur’s song “I’d Rather Be Your N.*.*.*A”. I really felt it was necessary to lay the law down for ladies. I really wanted to voice what I am seeking for in a man and explain the awesomeness that comes with actually being able to call a queen like myself their own. There’s not enough content out there that really voices the demands of women. I wanted to eloquently voice such a stance through my lyrics.

A little more about Mai Moxi:

Mai Moxi is a female character who lived during the Rockefeller era in East Cleveland when the streets had wealth and prominence. She falls into a coma after a god forsaken night at Tucker’s casino on Euclid Ave. She wakes up in the year 2015 and has to readjust. Love, relationships, state of our youth, survival are all of many things she has to download to her memory with the new state of East Cleveland being her new found environment.

Enjoy.
